About Mayvn
What is Mayvn?
Mayvn is an independent café and meeting space in Angel, London. It opened in early 2026 on the ground floor of 4-10 Pentonville Road.
Our line for it is "a place where we meet". That is not a tagline we reverse engineered. It is the reason the room exists.
Cafés have always been more than places to drink coffee. The coffee houses of 17th century Europe were where writers, thinkers and entrepreneurs argued out the ideas of the day, and cafés have carried that job ever since. They are where introductions happen, where a loose idea gets said out loud for the first time, where a working relationship starts before anyone calls it one. We built Mayvn around that, rather than around throughput.
In practice that means a room designed for staying and talking. Natural light. Seating that runs from a proper desk chair to a sofa. Music kept low enough that a conversation is easy and nobody has to lean in. Coffee roasted by our own founder, pastries baked in London that morning, and a short menu that changes with the season.
The day has a shape to it. Early mornings are quiet, and mostly people picking up a coffee on the way in or taking twenty minutes to themselves before anything starts. The middle of the day is what the whole place was designed for: meetings, catch ups, introductions, the conversations that move something along. The afternoon slows down again.
We are a café first. Two floors of Ten Four co-working desks surround us for the days that need a desk, a door and a full eight hours, and you can buy your way in on the day.
What does the name mean?
Mayvn means connoisseur in Hebrew. It is a nod to caring about the detail, from the coffee and the pastries down to the crockery, and it holds the founding idea in it too.

Why did Mayvn start?
Mayvn started with a cold message on LinkedIn.
Jason Harvey is a New Zealander who came to coffee sideways. He was an outdoor instructor in New Zealand before he saw a café operating at a music festival and decided to start roasting. In 2018 he founded Common Coffee at Rosemains Steading in Midlothian, working out of a farm workshop and refurbishing an old roaster the farmer already owned. Somewhere in building that, the interest shifted. It stopped being only about making very good coffee more available, and became about what good coffee lets people do: sit down together and get somewhere.
The LinkedIn message was Jason trying to reach the New Zealand business community in the UK. It reached Ten Four, a New Zealand owned workspace company that was about to open in Edinburgh, and the conversation turned into an idea neither side had started with. A calm, considered café sitting alongside a workspace, open to everyone, built for meeting rather than for working through.
As Jason puts it:
"I wanted to create a space where people meet, ideas grow and connections form. A calm, peaceful space to support working, focus or unwinding."
Ten Four then took a building on Pentonville Road with desks upstairs and an empty ground floor. Mayvn is what went into it. We soft opened in January 2026 and opened properly in February.
What is Mayvn's ethos?
Our purpose is to deliver evolutionary café experiences within shared spaces, and our mission is to design and host café experiences that connect creative thinkers and people who change things. Underneath the wording, it comes down to a café built around people rather than pace. We would rather you stayed than turned the table.
Three things follow from that.
The room is set up for connection. Layout, seating, sound and service are all pointed at making it easy to sit down with someone, whether that is a friend, a client or a person you were introduced to twenty minutes ago.
We buy from independent producers, even where a large wholesaler would be cheaper and simpler.
We would rather do a few things properly than a lot of things adequately, which is why the menu is short and changes with the season.
The vision we wrote down when we opened is to become the world's most loved meeting spot. It is a high bar and we know it.
What makes Mayvn different from other cafés in Angel?
The clearest difference is what the room is for. Most cafés are built to serve you and move you along, and a lot of London cafés are now actively pushing working customers out, with time limits on laptops and wifi switched off at peak. Mayvn is built for the meeting itself. Tables sized for two to four, sound kept down, service that leaves you alone once you are settled.
The second difference is what sits above us. Two floors of Ten Four desks, so the café does not have to pretend to be an office. If your day needs a dedicated desk, a room with a door or somewhere to leave a monitor, that is upstairs, and you can buy a day pass on the spot without being a member first.
The third is the coffee. Our founder roasts it. Common Coffee is his first business and it supplies us directly, so the person who designed this room also chose what goes in the cup.
Working from Mayvn
Can I have a meeting or take a call at Mayvn?
Yes, and this is the thing we are best at.
For a one to one or a small group, just come in. Tables seat two to four and it is quiet enough to talk without raising your voice. We do not take table reservations, so it is first come first served, but the room rarely leaves people standing.
For calls, we ask that you use headphones and take video calls somewhere you are not going to disturb the table beside you. If you need a room with a door, meeting rooms are bookable through Ten Four in the same building.

Can I work on my laptop at Mayvn?
Yes. Laptops are welcome, at every table, and plenty of people spend an hour or two here over a coffee before or after meeting someone.
What we would say honestly is that the café is built for meeting, not for a full working day. If you are here for an hour, a coffee and a conversation, this is exactly the room for it. If you have eight hours of head down work ahead of you, you will have a better day at a Ten Four desk, and so will the person hoping to sit down opposite someone.
We ask that you order something at least once an hour. It does not have to be another coffee. A pastry, a soft drink, a bottle of water, anything counts.
Is there free wifi, and are there power sockets?
Yes to both. Wifi is free for everyone in the café, no minimum spend and no time cap.
Power sockets are available, but not at every table. If you need a socket, ask at the counter and we will point you at the right seat rather than letting you guess.
How long can I stay at Mayvn? Is there a time limit?
No. Mayvn does not take table reservations. Seating is first come first served.
Two things are bookable: private hire of the café space, and desks or meeting rooms with Ten Four. Individual café tables are not.
What if I need a full working day?
Then you want Ten Four.
The building at 4-10 Pentonville Road holds a workspace run by Ten Four, a few steps from the café. That is a paid workspace with dedicated desks, meeting rooms and somewhere to leave a monitor, and you do not have to commit to a membership to use it. A walk in can buy a day pass at the door.
What does a Ten Four day pass cost?
A day pass is £45 and includes £15 of café credit. Access is 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.

Events and private hire
Can I book Mayvn for an event?
Yes. The café space is available for private hire and we host everything from coffee mornings and networking breakfasts to launches and small evening gatherings.

What kind of events work in the space?
The space suits gatherings of roughly 20 to 40 people where conversation is the point.

Coffee, food and the people we buy from
Whose coffee do you serve?
We use Common Coffee , a speciality roastery in Midlothian, Scotland.
Common roasts on a 12kg electric Probat, which is still unusual in the industry, and names its coffees by flavour rather than by origin: Strong, Sweet, Bright, Complex, Bold, and a Swiss Water decaf.
The beans behind them come from farms including Daterra in Brazil, which was the first coffee farm in the world to be certified as a B Corp, is carbon negative, and protects 3,500 hectares of forest across its estate.
Why is Mayvn linked to Common Coffee?
Because the same person founded both. Jason Harvey started Common Coffee in 2018 and opened Mayvn in 2026.
That is the whole connection, and it matters more than it sounds. It means the coffee is not a wholesale account picked on price. The person who designed this room also chose the beans, set the roast profile, and can tell you why the Sweet tastes the way it does.
Common now supplies cafés across the UK and is served at Time Out Market in New York. It started with a borrowed roaster in a farm workshop.
Why do you work with independent brands?
Because we would rather know the people we buy from.
Every supplier on our counter is an independent business. Common Coffee roasts in Midlothian. Lockdown Bakehouse bakes in south west London. Our chai, matcha and hot chocolate powders come from Blendsmiths in Cumbria.
It is not the cheapest way to run a café and it is not the easiest. Large wholesalers deliver on better terms, hold more stock and have fewer bad weeks. But buying from independents means we can ask exactly where something came from and get a real answer, and the money stays inside businesses that look a lot like ours.
It also makes the food and drink better, which is the honest reason.
Where do the pastries come from?
Our pastries come from Lockdown Bakehouse, a family run bakery founded in London in 2020 by Chris and Dawn Brumby.
They started during the first lockdown, baking for NHS workers and local residents out of a small kitchen, and grew into six sites across south west London with a production bakehouse in Wimbledon. They now supply more than 180 businesses across the city.
Deliveries arrive fresh each morning, so what is on the counter is what was baked that day. When it is gone, it is gone.

Where is Mayvn in Angel?
Mayvn is at 4-10 Pentonville Road, Angel, London N1 9HJ, on the ground floor of the Ten Four building.
We are about a minute from Angel station on the Northern line. Come out of the station, turn onto Pentonville Road, and we are on your left behind a brick façade. Upper Street is a couple of minutes in the other direction, and King's Cross is one stop away.
Buses along Pentonville Road and City Road stop close by. There is no parking on site.
What are Mayvn's opening hours?
Mayvn is open 7:30am to 5pm Monday to Friday, and 9am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday.
The co-working floors upstairs are open 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.
